HOME BUILDING
Our Foundation
Build a Miracle started with a simple mission of constructing 1 home a year. In 1999, our journey began with the construction of our first house. Fast-forward to 2023, and we take immense pride in celebrating the completion of house number 500!
Our families typically go from living in a one room dwelling with a dirt floor to a beautiful 3 bedroom home built to U.S. standards.
The sponsors of our homes have the opportunity to join us on 3 different build days to help build the new house and get to know the family who will live there. The relationships formed between families and their sponsors often last a lifetime.
What makes BAM unique?
Our families are not simply given homes, but earn them through a list of requirements. This gives them a sense of pride in and ownership of their home and encourages them to get involved in their community.
Requirements for families to receive a home from Build A Miracle:
- 500 hours of community service.
- Ensuring the enrollment and attendance of their children in school. We firmly believe that education plays a pivotal role in breaking the cycle of poverty. Consequently, supporting our families in maintaining their children's education through providing scholarships, tutoring, and this verification requirement, stands as a cornerstone of BAM's mission.
- Ownership of their land is a fundamental requirement, intended to safeguard our families from the risk of losing their homes.
- Participation in the 8 week BAM psychology/family growth and strengthening program.
- Participation in select Community Center classes and programs.
Above and Beyond
Most families discover a passion for helping others and do so much more than the 500 volunteer hours required of them. Community clean up days, home building days, preparing meals for children, and volunteering at the Community Center are some ways that they can earn their hours. Every build day, you will see people who have lived in their homes for over 10 years still joyfully helping their neighbors.
