Build A Miracle

The Beauty and Barber Program

The BAM Beauty and Barber Program, Bloom Beauty Academy, seeks to provide women in El Florido, Mexico, with an education in hair, nails, makeup, skin care, and salon business in order to live a successful and dignified life.

Our Story

The Build a Miracle Beauty School was originally started by Alejandra who lives in BAM house #101. She began by sharing her skills with women at the Community Center.

A few years later, Beth, who has a background as a hairstylist and salon owner, came down with Build a Miracle as a volunteer to help build houses. She immediately connected with the incredible women from our community and she saw a great need in getting an official beauty program started here.

The first cosmetology class had just 8 students, the bulk of whom have gone on to become some of the most involved and successful women in the community! Some have become our beauty school teachers, some have started their own businesses, and others are BAM community leaders.

The Beauty and Barber Program has grown immensely since that first class and now over 400 people have graduated from our beauty school, Bloom Beauty Academy. We have approximately 60 students in every graduating class. Our students receive training in haircutting, styling, color, makeup, facials, skin care, manicuring, and acrylics.

Our Students

Many graduates of our program have become instructors at our school, helping continue the cycle of learning.

Others have started their own businesses or work in either home or professional salons.

One of the most beautiful parts of the program is that our students gain a sense of self-respect and confidence and have created a beautiful sisterhood with fellow graduates.

Our Events

Bloom Beauty Academy Annual Masterclass in 2023

Our latest Masterclass was a huge success! During this week-long event at the Community Center, talented educators came from all over the U.S., sharing skills that will bring our students in Mexico to the next level. Over 200 men and women attended the event. The educators gave the students the tools they needed to elevate their knowledge and allow them to soar in their careers.

During the week, the students received advanced education in:

Our Needs

The school is in need of sponsors to help keep up with the tools and supplies needed to keep the classes running. We also offer assistance to the graduates to help them get set up with their own businesses. One pair of good quality clippers can support a family of five, but the cost of these clippers is about $200. Please consider sponsoring a student!
