Build A Miracle

Donor and Volunteer Testimonials

I have searched my entire adult life for a charity that I could pour my heart into and Build a Miracle certainly has superseded any dreams and expectations I could have had. I have never met more beautiful, grateful, and warm humans than those of the El Florido community! Every time I bring somebody new down there, at the end of the day they are asking me when the next trip is so they can come again. I am so proud to be affiliated with Build a Miracle. Every time I go down there my heart explodes over how much is being accomplished! BAM is truly changing lives one precious soul at a time and I am blessed to be a small part of it all. To see the faces and hear the heartfelt words of those ready to move into their new BAM home is life changing for us all. Not just for the volunteers that come across the border to help but also for the people from their own community. No matter how many homes they come to help build there are always tears of joy on all of the faces present and such deep love and compassion in everyone’s hearts!

We feel honored and privileged to have been involved with Build a Miracle from the beginning, watching it grow from building individual houses into building and enhancing a community. BAM is one of the few organizations we have supported where we have a “hands on” participation in the mission in addition to donating funds. We know that what we donate goes directly back into the community. What we love most about BAM is that the priority is for the whole family through providing the basic needs of shelter and food while encouraging and supporting the education of the children and adults. All of this adds to their dignity of life which we expect will be sustained over time.

Volunteering with Build A Miracle has been such a blessing in my life. BAM has such a wonderful mission and is a tremendous steward of the donations it receives. It is an organization that cares so deeply about transforming the lives of everyone they serve. And having the opportunity to see first hand how BAM “teaches people how to fish” it is so rewarding to know that your volunteer work is playing a part in building up each individual and the community as a whole. My favorite thing to do for BAM is to shop for the families in Mexico. Generous donors provide funding to furnish the homes with bedding, towels, kitchenware, etc. I love trying to shop around to get the best value I can for each dollar and it gives me such joy to pick out items for each family to turn their new BAM house into a home. When volunteering with administrative tasks, making books, or translating letters, I often have the opportunity to read the many thank you letters that the families and individuals write for their new homes, educational scholarships, food to eat, dental services received, etc. Reading these letters always brings tears to my eyes because everyone is so grateful for whatever they have received and they write how dramatically their lives have been transformed.

We feel so blessed to have been introduced to Build a Miracle 15 years ago. Getting to know the North family, the other volunteers, and the amazing families in Mexico has helped shape our views of poverty, suffering, and joy. To see the transformative effects of BAM’s housing, education, counseling, and entrepreneurship activities on the lives of such warm, supportive, earnest, hard-working individuals and families underscores how unique this organization is. Life-changing for everyone involved.

I Love BAM!!! I feel excited for each visit to the Community. My heart is always eager to see my dear friends, to meet new ones, and to see all the changes in the thriving neighborhood…..Oh, and the quesadillas! The build days are so much fun – full of joy, friendship, excitement, and hope. Each build day is very uplifting and encouraging for the entire Community. Many people from nearby neighborhoods show up to help in the construction of a new home so there are always many hugs. My favorite build day project is mixing the cement for the foundation. It is what makes possible the sweet home in which the family will enjoy many years of memories.
